These days

April 30, 2009

I was wondering why my blog feels so dead and it is ignored, and i thought it could be probably explained by the theory of RATIONAL EXPECTATIONS or REFLEXIVITY :O cause ppl just choose not to come when i don’t blog and when i see that people don’t come i don’t blog and yadayada the cycle goes on.

BUT BEFORE THIS DIGRESSES INTO ANYTHING ESOTERIC, here is what has been happening:

1) Guitar SYF: Gold. Could write a dissertation on the reflection of this event if i felt like it but no i don’t. Anyway yes, I think Gold is an INSPIRATION of how far we have come from a majority amateur guitar ensemble to our present maturity and a LESSON to realise that life is not all just about getting firsts.

Charmaine’s (wrongly) quoted quote is darn true on how we the Raffles often carry that self-assumed (and at times, delusional) pride to competitions and expect to sweep top spots for everything under the name of pure destined talent and ability. What cockiness. Ohwells.

2) Post-syf siaoness: Post-syf = Pre-concert = Probable publicity OVERKILL = I think it is unwise but given the fact that im a binomial distribution of either GOOD (do it well, professionalism), or EVIL (don’t do, typical slipshoddy poster, you know), it looks like i have no choice. High stress, minimal gratification; design is beret indeed.

3) SAT: woe be you.

FINALLY

April 23, 2009

After a week long endeavour, I’m rather proud to say that I HAVE FINALLY FINISHED MY H3 ESSAY ASSIGNMENT, (Oh what, just an assignment? Yes indeed, just an assignment.) although i think it has nearly achieved the length of an IS for KI. :/ Veh fulfilling, although i might need to reconsider that statement after it is graded. OKAY PRAY FOR THE BEST.

Ahha now with this out, more stuffs like SYF (5 MORE DAYS WHOOHOO) and SAT -.-

Anyway speaking of which, congrats to Chinese Dance for their gwh. Got to cover their epic gwh-worthy rehearsal so yay. One of my favourite shots (Y)

Actually also has group ‘jump shot’ which is MORE epic but of slightly WRONG PERSPECTIVE Noooo.

Woah a stray thought, but maybe fc and me got better shots than the actual syf photographer. Woah then can CAPITALISE. But nevertheless, one of the more challenging yet fulfilling ops I’ve ever covered. OKAY WILL RENT L LENS (lent rens?) NEXT TIME FOR EPIC SHOTS!

Ya sure, it pays.

Saw this and read the local news for the first time after many weeks. Laughed for a while before feeling quite disgusted.

It is quite saddening that ppl take econs to become financier and banker wannabes to make the world a better place by hedging, speculating and securitizing. “Scumbags”, says Reeves. I can’t help but agree.

Yet if it’s serious, non-adulterated econs that you want, NUS probably beats SMU hands down anytime -.-

On a totally separate note, what Shawn (Shaun?) from mshs told me today about the 4 ri (sec) boys coming to the MDAS power soccer training thing just for cip and to satisfice their service learning thing totally made me wonder, if that is what we have become at rj too. Seriously wth to them who come down and show face, pretend to help abit, talk and mope around. Ultimately, the ppl who do the REAL DEAL of community service are possibly those from the not so epic schools, who respect CIP for what it is and actually go about trying to be contributing positively with lesser concern for their own portfolios.

deep stuff

April 14, 2009

After a painful day trying to keep awake while doing SAT practice, i think i shall have my revenge now. This question should appear on SAT I REASONING test, probably the critical thinking + general knowledge + trivial affairs section.

Qn:
Explain the logical fallacy behind the following statement. Pinocchio said, “My nose is long.”

Actually it isn’t that hard on retrospect, but the answer causes brain to fuse. *does brain fuse action*

A morning for mourning

April 14, 2009

I think i sound too abstruse but yes hello world, with 14 days left to syf and an apparent poverty of EPIC aspirations (this phrase is too awesome already), life can’t be any more cooler. YET, this post will NOT be a pensive one about guitar and syf. That shall be next time.

Ahha, did probability and probably fell asleep and woke up again to do more probability and conquered bastions of many questions (Y) totally yay. It is somewhat psychedelic to realise how with all my aspiration in econs, i need to be a tad (A LOT)  more decent in stats. ): Wondered if Krugman ever failed his high school math test before…

Well, a more positive piece of life. A nice political satire we did there for appreciation week. Much credits and kudos to fc who never fails to produce epic, unorthodox design stuffs

Compensation required for facing a blown up 300% picture of George for around an hour.

One small problem though, Barack’s kinda left and John, right. Hmm…OH NEHMIND

Ohmygosh im being serious/not gaoxiao-ing around for once. Anyway speaking of tomorrow’s PW results, I kinda think the above phrase is what sums it all up.

It’s rather awesome that when i hear ppl complain about PW grps and all the lamentations last year, I think i am sehr blessed to have had an awesome grp who in spite of our epic quantities of difference, still worked together nicely and finished stuffs with a bang. Thank you guys 😀 (if you all even read this aha)

What’s in a name?

April 8, 2009

I think there is a POSITIVE CORRELATION between being called Robert and being a brilliant person. It’s a bloody narrow-minded thought, but aiyah NEEDS SIMPLICITY sometimes.

Robert Solow, Barro, Lucas, Schiller, Oppenheimer (the only non-economist I can think of) and the list goes on once we can find more!

Like what blau mentions, we should have Robert in our middle names (since i like my real name) like Jon Robert Gan or Benjamin Robert Lau then will somehow be PRO.

(OH OH OH, IS JUST LIKE HOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE MACBOOK PROS ARE NATURALLY PRO. UNDENIABLE NATURAL SELECTION OF LIFE MAN. :/)

After receiving the immense quantity of notes for h3 today (+ more books to read), i think i am taking H38549392 econs. And it will cost me $150 to take that paper (CAN BUY A 50mm 1.8 dammit) so has more incentive to work hard now.

NIC at marina barrage was rather decent though, could see the epic scaled-downness compared to 2 years ago at MOS :/ Lousier food too. But the usual hanging out late after NIC still applies, albeit with lesser people and the worries of life bogging enjoyment down ):

AND…CONGRATS TO MELVIN WHO WON A NIKON COMPACT ANYHOWS 😀 (cause compacts don’t deserve to be mentioned by model)

Life had it’s many perplexities today, although i shan’t expound on the details.

One of them being the harsher truth of how h2 econs has much value being a subject of rote studying – something ale and i discovered last year, and got reaffirmed today after getting back results. Probably the rote road of normalcy always finds you more security, and we could all work towards fitting in the mould of a typical rj student yay.

Ignorance is seriously awesome bliss.
